Research

My research focuses on studying the heterogeneity of neutrophils – one the most abundant cells of the immune system – under pathological conditions. The main goal is to define the subpopulations of these cells based on the presence of surface receptors and the level of expression and activity of neutrophil serine proteases (NSPs), which perform key effector functions. To assess the enzymatic activity of NSPs, I apply new, previously unused chemical probes developed in our team. Flow cytometry analyzes allowed the identification of new neutrophil populations, which provides valuable information on their phenotypic diversity, which may translate into functional heterogeneity in the course of diseases.
